Rønne, Bornholm, Denmark

Rønne is the largest town on Bornholm Island in Denmark. We’re nearing the finish line of our Baltic journey, returning to Denmark. Using tenders to go ashore makes arriving in a new port more exciting. As it turned out, the weather was too nasty (rain/wind) so the tender return was delayed and dramatic due to very rough seas. 🤢

Continuing on the gastronomy theme, a tour of Bornholm’s food culture gets us into the country to learn more about local produce and culinary traditions. Trying different foods, seeing production is part of the joy of travel and reconnects us to our agricultural roots. We try to get plenty of exercise to counteract the gluttony on cruise ships!

Sea buckthorn, a local product sometimes called Nordic Lemon, is a delicious piquant fruit that is an ideal addition to gin & tonic, and boasts tons of health benefits.

Smoked herring, a local tasty catch, best with the local rye bread and beer!

Making mustard the old-fashioned way.

Journey’s culinary department produces some fantastic brunches with cute edible decorations and pool deck BBQs featuring local musicians .

Azamara Journey Master-Captain Antonio Toledo. His long sailing career includes a stint on the expedition for the 500th Anniversary of Christopher Columbus Discovery of America on a replica of the Santa Maria. When he’s not aboard, he lives in Marbella, Spain.
